Ident pre-production/planning

 Ident pre-production/Research

I want my ident to be a representation of our productions, our style, look. Since our films are very experimental and creative, I wanted my ident to express this. Our work is all about visual experimentation, our goal is to push the bounds of 'normal' and create something new and quirky for our audiences. Therefore out work is mainly aimed at a young target audience, mainly new film-makers like ourselves, who are interested in using new techniques in there work. I used bright fun colours to represent this.

You could compare the ideas behind my ident with the ones had behind E4s ident's.
E4 always has animated, fun, silly ident's. This one was set in a lounge, which in, 4 trees had grown, the sofa was sinking along with a chair, mushrooms were growing from the ground, and two sheep stood in the corner, completely bizarre and comical! Which suits the channels programme since alot of them are comedy's. Aiming its channel at the younger viewers, being that its programs generally are targeted at adolescents. The animations are very artistic and eye-catching. Using an experimental stand out design does appeal to adolescents, the same as what we are aiming to do in our ident. Most idents identify themselves through the use of colour, by connecting the viewers with a colour identifies their channel. And is a strong branding technique, E4 uses purple. But my ident has a mix match look, our logo, is created from different fonts and colours. Branding ourselves by our unique approach on this. I think that our logo represents us, and shows our style. The ident is 3D, The animation I plan to use on my ident will only be 2D meaning I will only be using an X and Y axis.

I first imported my footage, of a girl spinning then watching the letters as they fall to create the word 'PALM'. I first added my clip to a new composition, then added text, I made the text fall by using 'position' on my letters, creating a start and end point on the timeline. And perfected them using 'scale'. I think that putting animation and footage together creates an interesting look, which will attract my target audience, being like minded adolescents, who enjoy creative and or experimental programmes.

Channel 4 identifies themselves by a collage of idents which each use the number 4, connecting objects to create it. The objects float into place to create the number, experts used hightech graphics to create this. This sketch is of haystacks on a field coming into the shape of a four. The series of idents all have extremely different settings including international destinations, representing the fact of the channels versatility. It appeals to its audience since it has been so cleverly made, and seem impossible to achieve to anybody who doesn't work with CGI. This ident has no clear target audience, purposely since channel 4 shows such programmes which could appeal to a huge audience. And has no specific target age group unlike e4.They would have used point tracking to import the '4' and every case of this sequence of idents.
One of my personal favourite idents is JJ Abraham's company 'bad robot'. I think it has a unique style, and catchy look. The perky ident is a small red robot which waddles across your screen whilst 'bad robot' is said in a robot voice. Although you would instantly associate this kind of animation with children the dark colours, and unattractive looking red robot aims its audience higher. With a grey gloomy background it associated itself with the programmes this company owns like 'lost' a programme which is very dark. The ident is 2d, and even appears like its been sketched, its simple yet effective.
