file formats

FILE FORMATS

MPG- movie files on the internet. known as 'moving picture experts group' or 'audio/visual file format. used on youtube Facebook etc. 

MP4- a digital multimedia format mainly used for audio files used on the internet/ipod/phone. can also be used to store video, and other data like still images and subtitles.

MOV- Known as  the Apple QuickTime Movie Format. Files used on mac books and played in quicktime. 

AVI- Stands for audio video interleave. A motion and sound picture file, produced for and by Microsoft Windows. 

WMV-windows media video compression format for several proprietary codecs developed by Microsoft.

FLV-An online player, Flash video. can use to play or contain video files with adobe flash player version 6-11. 

SWF-A flash format, used on ActionScript, Multimedia and Vector Graphics. They usually contain animations or applets.  

3GP-format designed for mobile phone and multimedia.

ASF-'Advanced System Format' used on Microsoft, its a digital/audio video container format, used for streaming media.
